Most of the Profrom elliptical trainers generally fall anywhere in between $250 to $1,000.
A Proform elliptical trainer is generally for those of you who want high end features at a reasonable price.
For example, you can get the proform 1280s elliptical trainer with an adjustable ramp for about $599. This technology is only seen on high end elliptical trainers.
Now, the precor 5.21i also offers an adjustable ramp and this elliptical trainer goes for about $3,699. You can also get the “stride select” on the proform 825 elliptical trainer ($399) which, on the Life fitness x5 goes for about $3,099.
What is the big difference? Well, simply put, it’s the quality of the elliptical machine that’s in question. Both the precor and life fitness elliptical trainers are high end elliptical trainers that are known for quality and durability. The price you pay for these high end elliptical trainers are for an elliptical trainer that’s built to last.
With a proform elliptical trainer, you are getting the most high end features for less. Since proform is owned by Icon Fitness, a billion dollar fitness company, it can effectively place itself in the high features, low budget elliptical trainers market.
Now, Icon Fitness is a fitness products giant with such names as Nordic Track, Weider, Image, Healthrider, Reebok, and Weslo under their belt. Icon knows the market and it is reflective of the elliptical trainers that it produces. With this in mind, Icon Fitness can mass produce low budget elliptical trainers to a wide ranging audience.
Is the proform elliptical trainer bad? First of all, let me say that any elliptical trainer under $1,000 is going to be cheap. I’m not going to lie to you and say that for $500 you can get an elliptical trainer that will outperform high end elliptical trainers such as a precor. An elliptical trainer is like any other consumer good that you buy and “you get what you pay for” very much applies to elliptical trainers.
However, Icon is the only company that can produce high end features on a budget elliptical trainer and make it look and sound like a high end elliptical machine.
When it comes to a proform elliptical trainer, you are presented with a high feature elliptical trainer that has questionable parts and construction. Icon is not known for building long lasting and durable fitness products and their warranty is reflective of this fact. The proform elliptical trainer warranty is as follows:
• 90 day parts;
• 90 day labor;
• 30 day money back guarantee;
• Free shipping from proform
This is not a very solid warranty. This warranty says a lot about the quality and durability of their elliptical machines. However, proform does have an extended warranty available and if your interested in a proform elliptical trainer, I strongly suggest you get it.
Proform elliptical trainers are meant for light use. That is, any extended periods of heavy use with these elliptical trainers and you might have technical trouble. Also, if you weight more than 250 pounds, you might want to look at other elliptical models.
