life fitness x9i elliptical trainer

A complete review of the life fitness x9i elliptical trainer

The life fitness x9i elliptical trainer is a top quality elliptical trainer. You simply won’t find a better elliptical trainer for $4,000.

It has more than enough features for you to choose from, it is built to last, it uses all the internal workings of life fitness’ commercial models, and is backed up by a strong warranty.

Size

Length: 6.9' (83 In)
Width: 2.3' (28 In)
Height: 5' (61 In)
Weight: 235 Pounds

The life fitness x9i elliptical trainer is life fitness’ top of the line consumer elliptical trainer. This is an elliptical heavy weight and is as sturdy and solid as the one you use at your local gym.

At 235 pounds, this elliptical model is more than enough for the home exerciser. It is not the heaviest model for life fitness but it is sturdy enough to accommodate every user in your home. In fact, it actually weights less than the life fitness x5 models and can support just as much weight.

The life fitness x9i is a stationary elliptical trainer and chances are, you won’t be lugging it around from room to room. The x9i is nothing short of quality work.

Adjustable resistance/peddles

Alternator resistance system
25 resistance levels
No peddle adjustment
Dual offset crank linkage system

The life fitness x9i elliptical trainer uses the eddy current resistance system.

The alternator resistance systems are only found on commercial grade quality elliptical machines and you won’t find them on most home elliptical machines. The alternator resistance system offers the smoothest and quietest ride on the elliptical trainers.

There is a whopping 25 resistance levels on the x9i elliptical trainer. This is more than enough for the beginner and advanced trainer. The dual offset crank linkage system is commercial grade technology. Basically, you won’t find any weak or sticking points with the x9i elliptical trainer. As with most elliptical trainers (especially the cheap ones), you will find that at the top of every stride, you are at your weakest. This is where you “stick” and it takes a little more effort to get past this stage. However, with the life fitness x9i elliptical trainer, there are literally no sticking points. Every part of the stride is as smooth as the next with no sticking points. This is definitely commercial grade technology.

There are no peddle adjustments with the x9i elliptical trainer. However, with the oversized peddles, they are not needed since there is more than enough room to accommodate all users.

Elliptical stride

18" Diameter stride

The life fitness x9i has an expansive elliptical stride that can accommodate all users.

There are plenty of feedback indicators to help you assess your current workout condition. The console is commercial grade with 2 screens to help you assess your progress (see below).

Again, there are commercial grade workout programs on the life fitness x9i elliptical trainer.

You won’t go bored with this elliptical trainer and it has everything that both, the beginner and advanced trainer can find challenging.

Compared to other high end consumer elliptical trainer such as the precor 5.23, star trac natural runner, and even the stair master 5100 ($5,649), the life fitness x9i has more programming available.

Not only that, the x9i has much more interesting programs available.

Simply plug the life fitness x9i into a wall socket and your ready to go.

Frame

Robotically welded, heavy-duty welded steel frame
Maximum user weight: 350 pounds

The life fitness x9i elliptical trainer is very sturdy and solid. The frame is made of 4" x 4" - 3" round steel, welded steel frame. When the specs say it holds 350 pounds, I believe it.

This elliptical trainer is built to last - Pure and simple. You are paying a high price for this elliptical trainer but you know that the life fitness x9i is going to be hassle free for the life of the elliptical trainer.

It’s an elliptical model that’s built to last and that’s what your paying for.

Heart rate monitor

Yes

The life fitness x9i elliptical trainer comes with a Polar® Telemetry wireless chest strap. A nice feature that allows you to exercise in your target heart rate zone. Since the x9i comes with 5 heart rate controlled programs, you can get the most out of your workouts knowing your in your target heart zone.

Dual action handle bars

Yes
Stationary bullhorn front handlebars

You have the option of doing a full body cardio cross training or placing more emphasis on the lower body. I like the fact that life fitness x9i elliptical trainer has stationary bull horn front handle bars. On cheaper models, I find that the front handle bars are spaced too far apart. This makes it awkward for the exerciser because you are almost touching the dual action handle bars.

The bull horn front handle bars are also ergonomically correct offering a more comfortable ride.

Warranty and service

Frame: Lifetime
Parts: 3 years
Labor: 1 years
30 day return policy

The warranty is comparable to high end exercise equipment manufacturers. However, when compared to the precor warranty the life fitness warranty may seem a little off. Check out the precor warranty:

-Lifetime frame and welds;
-10 years parts and wear items;
-1 year labour.

I think if you are going to be paying out $4,000 for an elliptical trainer, it should have a higher parts and wear warranty. However, the life fitness warranty is still better than most high end consumer elliptical trainers. Star trac’s warranty is:

-2 years on parts;
-1 year on labor;
-Warranty is void if the star trac is not assembled and installed by an authorized professional

Take a look at Nautilus’ stair master 5100's warranty:

-3 years parts;
-1 yer labor and wear items;
-Frame 15 years

The Life Fitness manufacturer stands behind their product as reflected in their warranty information. As you can see, the precor warranty is the best you can get. However, the life fitness warranty comes in at second place.

The life fitness x9i elliptical trainer also comes with full installation. The exercise equipment will be delivered to your home, installed in a room of your choice, and you will be given a product demonstration. This will be included in your shipping charges. The delivery and installation charges go for about $150 for their elliptical trainers. I strongly suggest that you get your life fitness x9i professionally installed.

Life Fitness limits their delivery to the States. If you live outside the States, you will need to make other arrangements via a third party merchant.

Price/cost effectiveness
$4,199.00

I’ll be the first to admit that this is not a cheap elliptical trainer. If you have the money and are looking for something that can give you everything you need in an elliptical trainer - Look no further than the life fitness x9i elliptical trainer. The x9i has all the bases covered - It’s built to last, it has all the features that the commercial gym models have, contains all the internal workings of the gym models, and is backed up by strong warranty.

To tell you the truth, if I had $4,000 to spend on an elliptical trainer, this would be one of my top choices.

Special features

Dual offset crack linkage system;
Hand contact sensors on the console;
Alternator resistance system;
A truly attractive elliptical trainer

Elliptical Rating

What can I say about the life fitness x9i. It’s about the best you can buy for $4,000. It has everything you need in an elliptical trainer and more. If you you’re the type of person who wants (and demands) the very best with the necessary funds to spend, than this is the elliptical trainer for you.
