First of all, coenzyme Q10 is a member of a group of substances called coenzymes.
Coenzymes are usually consumed in the diet, with vitamins being perhaps the most well known coenzyme factors.
In recent years, more and more research has been done on coenzymes, particularly coenzyme Q10. Now, this enzyme cannot be made in the body so it must come from your diet.
Although widely available in food, the body must first convert CoQ to a more suitable form, specifically coenzyme Q10. Research has determined that with age, the rate of conversion declines, usually starting in the mid thirties, which can have some negative consequences.
Ok, what does coenzyme Q10 do?
CoQ spends most of it's time in the mitochondrial membranes of the your bodies cells. These little power generators spend virtually their entire lives generating energy for the body. They generate roughly 95 percent of the total energy extracted from food. Without coenzyme Q10, you would not have enough energy to do even a few reps in the bench press (ouch!).

There are some important benefits. It has an importance for athletes, weight trainers and bodybuilders. It has powerful antioxidant effects and it destroys free radicals in your body. And while older weight trainers may be in better shape that the general sedentary population, on one can stop the biological clock. With it's ability to strengthen the heart and lower blood pressure, CoQ10 is an excellent supplement for the older members of exercise and weight lifting.
This dietary supplement helps improve the memory, boost immunity and energy, enhance exercise performance, and combat aging. Not only does it act as an antioxidant but also helpful in numerous diseases cure such as diabetes, gingivitis, congestive heart failure and many more. In terms of building muscle, I don't think coenzyme Q10 is an essential supplement but I would recommend it for all round good health.
